My favorite painting — and on deck to be my next cross-stitch project — is Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. I also wrote a poem based on Starry Night Over the Rhone. Both paintings have a kind of deep familiarity for me; I’ve often wondered if Van Gogh might have had keratoconus, and I’m not the only one to raise the question. That way of seeing the world is one I know well.
I sometimes view KC as a sort of backhanded gift; it literally changes how I see the world. That isn’t always fun, but for someone working in any of the arts, literally seeing differently can stir up some energies that fire creativity and create a unique vision (physically and artistically) that can stun people who don’t see that way.
These articles aren’t specifically about Van Gogh, but they do show that other people are thinking about and working with this.
